Calibration / Repairs

Calibration is essential to ensure the accuracy of your measurement equipment.
Inspec recommends calibration and preventative maintenance (PM) for a machine a minimum of once a year.
Calibration is also necessary after a move, repair or retrofit.

Inspec calibrates machines to B89 and ISO standards traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
As an ISO-9001:2000 registered company with ISO-17025:2005 accredited laboratory procedures we are committed to high-quality and exceptional performance.

Coordinate Measuring Machine

Coordinate Measuring Machine

This is a device that is used for dimensional measuring, that uses a moving measuring probe to obtain the coordinates of points on an object surface. Coordinate Measuring Machines, CMM's, uses an X-Y-Z grid coordinate system to determine its position on a worktable. Type of CMM's include: Gantry, Cantilever, Bridge (most common) and Column.

Calibration

Generally taking about one day, depending on the size of the machine. We can calibrate all makes and models including manual and DCC. Our process includes a thorough inspection and cleaning of the scales, drive, guideways, probe, hardware and electronic systems. We also run both before and after data to complete a full calibration service. If requested by the customer, however, we can cerftify the equipment only and just run before data.
We then use the latest methods to calibrate the machine to customer and/or manufacturer specifications. Realizing that each situation is unique; therefore, Inspec tailors each appointment to the individual.

Repair

Common repairs include air leaks, replacements and adjustments in the axes. Also, problems with readerheads, cabling, and probing are frequent repairs that Inspec responds to. Having us come on site and diagnosis and repair to have your machine quickly back and running starts with a phone call to Inspec.

Hardness Tester

Hardness Tester

Measuring how easily a mineral can be scratched, is the main purpose of a hardness tester. It is measured on the Mohs scale. This can also be defined as the relative resistance of a metal or other material to denting or bending, as well as scratching. Types include Rockwell (most common), Brinell and Vickers.

Calibration

The calibration process generally takes a few hours to a half day. It includes 3 readings on all scales - low, medium, high, before reading calculated, level machine, check for chips, breaks, cracks and after reading calculated.

Repair

The most common repairs needed are diamond indenter replacements. Our service technicians have a full range of indenters in their stock and can replace while on site.

Machine Tool

Machine Tool

Machine Tools are a power-driven machine that is used to cut or to form metals or other types of materials into useful shapes. With far greater precision than hand tools, they can bend, cut, drill, grind, hammer, plane and squeeze metal into desired shapes. Machine tools come in a wide range fo sizes, based on the largest workpiece to be machined.

Calibration

Depending on the size of the machine tool the calibration process can take only a few hours to a few days. Starting with wiping down machine ways, table surface and lenses, then inspecting for rusts, nicks and any other damage, the calibration process then begins. Before and after data is documented and the process is complete.

Repair

We can help support and diagnose machine tool repairs. With our expertise and relationship with equipment manufactures, Inspec's service technicians will rapidly get you back up and running.

Optical Comparator

Optical Comparator

An optical comparator is an instrument that projects a greatly magnified image of a part feature onto a screen for examination, to compare the shape, size, and location of its features.

Calibration

Horizontal models with screen sizes from 16, 24, 32, 40 or 60 inchs and vertical models with screen sizes from 16, 24, 32, or 40 inchs we can calibrate. Typically this calibration process takes two-three hours to perform.
We start by wiping down machine ways, table surfaces and lenses.
Then we inspect the equipment for nicks and other damage that may affect accuracy.
Hardware and electronic systems are then also inspected, and to complete the calibration before and after data is then collected.

Repair

Replacing bulbs and retrofitting older model digital readouts are among the most frequent repairs. Our service technicians keep a large inventory of bulbs on-hand and at Inspec, we have many DRO's in stock for convenience.

Surface Plate

Surface Plate

A hard, flat surface, usually made of granite that is used as a base for inspecting parts.
Lapped - polished with an abrasive paste to remove the last bit of unwanted material.

Calibration

Our service technicians have the ability to resurface to any grade needed by your Quality system. Whether it is Grade AA, Grade A, Grade B or if you have a steel plate, we can service them all. Depending on the size the plate, the calibration process can take an hour up to one day.

Repair

During this procedure, referred to as lapping, this includes polishing with an abrasive paste to remove all unwanted material. We also provide granite repair to fix any chips that the surface plate has. In addition, if needed, we can install threaded inserts to our customer's specified pattern.

Tensile Tester

Tensile Tester

This piece of equipment works by slowly exerting an axial pull so that the steel is stretched until
it breaks. Tensile testers can be either horizontal or vertical, with a wide range of weight capacities.

Calibration

Our state of the art interface equipment, including load cells helps us to perform tensile tester calibration efficiently and accurately. We also check the equipment for any surface repairs needed, clean and inspect, and then record before and after data.

Repair

Inspec has the ability to support and diagnose tensile tester repairs. Because of our expertise and relationship with equipment manufactures, Inspec's service technicians will rapidly get you back up and running.

Tool Pre-Setter

Tool Pre-Setter

This type of device is on a lathe that determines tool geometry offsets on the X- and Z-axis. The tool tip contacts surfaces on the probe, which records the position.

Calibration

This process generally takes a few hours up to a half day. Our process begins with checking for any damages, cleaning and checking before and after data.

Repair

Commonly, digital readouts and scale replacements are among the most service-related calls for tool pre-setter. Let us diagnose and repair, just give us a call and we will accurately and efficiently support you.

Vision System

Vision System

Using a video camera to magnify part features for inspection is the purpose of using a Vision System.
This system checks complex 3D and 2D parts and is available in manual or Direct Computer Control, DCC.

Calibration

We first clean and inspect the piece of equipment, looking for any damages that need to be replaced. We then provide before and after data, making any adjustments needed. For the Micro-Vu line, we provide factory/manufacturer calibrations, due to our distributorship.

Repair

Bulbs and sockets commonly are regularly the two items that need to be replaced on vision systems. Our service technicians, have a large inventory of bulbs and sockets on-hand for expediency for our customers.

Equipment Moves

Equipment Moves

We can handle all of your equipment moves, whether it is across the laboratory, across the state or across the country. We can prepare for move, set-up, install and calibrate. In addition, any rigging service needed, forklifts or trucks support, we can provide. Just let us know the details, the pick up and ship to locations and we can start right away!
